After nearly 10 years of Blake & Taylor I decided that my store needed a little facelift.  We closed the doors of the store for a week at the end of August ready to work on transforming both the inside and outside of the building.  We painted the outside of the front of the building, installed new signage, painted floors and walls, wallpapered, added new fixtures and fittings and created a fresh new look for the store.  Read about how we made these changes possible in just over a week…..

Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint

The Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint has played a huge role in the store’s renovations.  Because it is so quick and easy to use and drys in record time I was able to do some pretty big transformations in a short period of time.  One of the biggest challenges with the renovation was to change the colour of the floor.  I have been wanting to do this for a number of years but never had the chance to do so.  Renovating was the perfect opportunity to start this challenge.  For any of you who have visited the store in the past you would know the floor used to be quite a dark grey and I wanted to whitewash the whole thing.  So ready with my French Linen Chalk Furniture Paint I set about the big task of moving all the furniture, cleaning the floor and applying one coat of my Furniture Paint with a roller.

Applying French Linen with my roller

Once the French Linen was dry I then applied the Blake & Taylor Whitewash using a large brush, to give the floor a textured cross hatch effect, which was a massive job by hand.  Lastly I sealed everything in with a coat of my Blake & Taylor Clear Top Coat Satin Finish using a roller.  A big project, but I think you will agree it makes the biggest difference to the look and feel of the store.  It instantly brightens and makes the space look fresher and bigger.  So if you have been thinking of doing something similar at home, here is your inspiration to clear a weekend in your diary and get started!  Come in and have a look and speak to the staff about how it was all done.

The finished floor

A few of our big pieces of furniture also got a Chalk Furniture Paint Makeover.  The main counter, custom built for when we first opened the store, has been transformed using Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint colours New White & French Blue and a darker stain added to the bench top.  Our fitted cupboards that used to be black also needed to be updated to fit the new look of the fresh bright store. So they were given a ‘New White’ makeover.  Here are some before and after pictures.

The Blake & Taylor Main Counter

As well as the floor and pieces of furniture,  The Chalk Furniture Paint was also used to paint some of the walls and mirrors.  We have a striking ‘Steel Grey’ wall, ‘Duck’ feature wall and the ‘French Linen’ was used in the new workshop area.  The Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint really can be used in so many ways!

So if you haven’t done so already, pop in to see us all and take a look at the fabulous new changes.  Don’t forget you can use our FREE customer car park behind the store just off Cochrane Street.
