Ellie: How I Knit Your Favourite Linen Washers?

WHEN I JUST CAN’T SIT STILL… I KNIT WASHERS!

A lot of you may know that I cannot sit still.  I have to always be doing something otherwise I feel like I am wasting precious time.  There is just so much to fit in, so much to design, to make, to do, to play with and on and on before we die…

As such, I am one of those who get’s impatient while watching TV.  It doesn’t feel productive enough.  So when I sit down to watch a show I always have a knitting project in hand as well.  This is how I relax, no following patterns, just knitting from the soul.

For quite a few years now I have been knitting washers/cloths using linen thread from France (have a peek at my recent blog posts on why I think linen is so amazing!).  I usually put these washers up for sale at the Blake & Taylor store. Some of you may already have purchased one or two!

Know How I Knit Your Favourite Linen Washers

Many people have asked me about the thread and the washers and are curious how to get the look.  So to help everyone out I am sharing this great pattern I have come across that has 3 different styles of washers in it and uses beautiful linen thread from Europe.  I have put the thread, pattern and needles all into my web store all separately thinking most of you would already have your tools and yarn or might want to make up your own pattern.  The needle size for the patterns is 5mm.

A tip for when you have finished knitting your square, do one row of single crochet stitch around your piece and chain stitch a small circle/loop for a hanger at one of the corners.  Do two rows if you prefer.  The crochet helps to keep it square and firm.  Just have a play around to make your own personal design.

These washers make great gifts wrapped up with some French soaps, or maybe even some soap that you have hand made.

hey are not only for use in the bathroom.  I have found them great for use in the kitchen and laundry as well. Being made from a natural fibre they wash and wash and wash and get better with age (another fact you’ll learn in my recent blog post on the wonders of linen!).
