10am – 3pm

Come and join me and learn the ancient craft of Japanese Sashiko & Boro stitching to make this beautiful Kinchaku drawstring bag.

Sashiko traditionally is a decorative reinforcement running stitch or functional embroidery used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches.  The white cotton thread on traditional Japanese Indigo gives Sashiko its distinctive decorative appearance.

Boro is very similar to Sashiko, where stitching is used to patch textiles together to repair fabric.

We will use both techniques to piece together a beautiful drawstring bag. I have a treasure trove of vintage and designer patterned fabrics to use, gorgeous coloured embroidery threads and special Sashiko needles.

This workshop runs over two days.  In the first class we will play with fabric choice and learn about the stitching techniques.  You will then go away and stitch all your pieces at your own leisurely pace at home.  In our second class I will show you how to piece together all your beautiful stitching to form your drawstring bag.

This workshop will be held in the Blake & Taylor store in our own designated workshop space, so we can sit and stitch whilst enjoying the French music, atmosphere of the store and the people passing by.  Delicious morning tea and lunch is also provided.

I will provide all material and equipment including fabrics, threads, fastenings and your own needle, which is yours to keep to create more beautiful stitched fabrics at home.

We shall send an email to you a few days before your class which will act as a reminder.

Please make sure you read the cancellation policy for all of our workshops.

CANCELLATIONS – Blake & Taylor must be notified no less than 3 days (72 hours) prior to your workshop via email or phone and an alternative workshop will be organised. Cancellations after this 3 day period are non-transferable. No refunds can be given, sorry.
