Let’s Go Stitiching
I have been stitching this cushion top for months. A bit here and a bit there as it takes a while sometimes for all the correct and perfect elements to come together and also to find that perfect piece of fabric that will sit ‘just there’ and bring the whole piece together. If you are a stitcher then you know what I am talking about.
Lots of elements make up this cushion top – indigo dyeing, resist methods with mordants and leaves, and stencilling to name a few.
I am crazy at the moment about Sashiko and Boro which are Japanese stitching methods. Used by the Japanese as far back as the 17th century, this is the art of mending textiles using scraps of cloth and running stitch. For the back of this cushion I have cut up an old hand stitched quilt that I have had forever. It is a beautiful blue and white ticking. I shall post an image of the finished cushion when it comes back from our workroom. I can’t wait to share it with you!
