Renovation Reveal – New Fashion

Throw away fashion is such a big industry today and it is more important than ever before to support ethically sourced, good quality clothing.  Natural fabrics have always been at the heart of Blake & Taylor Fashion and for Spring 2019 I have some simple, organic cotton pieces that will feel comfortable even when the temperatures start to rise here in Queensland. Ellie B&Txx CLOTH & CO Cloth & Co. is a contemporary lifestyle brand, founded with a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the people who make their products with a focus on empowering [...]

Custom Made Cushions

We are making a few new exciting changes to Blake & Taylor at the moment and one of them is adding a whole new range of beautiful custom made cushions to the store.  I am really pleased to be able to share with you some of these stunning designs using the best quality fabrics.  I have always loved playing around with pattern and textures in this way.  The addition of a gorgeous custom made cushion to a room can really elevate it from ordinary to extraordinary. Best of all, exclusive Blake & Taylor cushions include a soft duck feather insert. [...]

Furniture Paint Makeover

This hutch and pine chair have been sitting at my house for a while now both waiting for a lick of paint! Rather than tackle the project like I usually do painting at my home, I decided to work on this furniture paint makeover project at the Blake & Taylor store instead.  It was a bit tricky finding the space but it worked and lots of customers were interested to see how the paint works up close and personal.  For this furniture paint makeover I decided on Dove Grey for the hutch and Duck for the chair, knowing exactly which [...]

Pear Frame Makeover

I have been wanting to transform this old pear frame ever since I launched the Chalk Furniture Paint colour, Sage.  I have always thought this would be the perfect hue to enhance this old painting and be a great way to use some of the Soft Black Wax to bring out that beautiful foliage carving detail. Artwork In Ellie’s Home

My home is my creative playground.  I love imagining new ways I could transform each space.  The stairway was a spot that had irked me for quite a while. About a year ago my husband and I took a few cans of Blake & Taylor Chalk Paint, expended half a day’s worth of elbow-grease and fixed it right up.  (Would you like to see the results? ) Left photo Kitchen looking into breakfast room showing Blue & white Stack Painting. Photo to the right Afternoon Mosaic. The project did not end there of course!  Stairwells are the perfect place for a [...]

Everything Is Better When It Is Vintage!

Ok, I must digress, not absolutely EVERYTHING is better when it is vintage.  I much prefer my smartphone to the twist-it-all-the-way-around rotary dial of my youth.  Though, to be fair, it did help me practice my memorization skills. Many things that were fashioned in the past give me great excitement.  The love and care infused into each item is second only to something that has been hand-made.  Both of which I have in spades at the Blake & Taylor shop! It is as if these items are filled to the brim with the very appreciation of time that went into [...]

Chair Makeover

Here is the next project that has arrived on my design bench, a chair makeover! You might not believe it, but this fabulous chair frame is not an antique! The gorgeous wooden frame with beautifully carved floral detail was designed and crafted overseas.  This chair was commissioned by one of my client's for their bedroom (another project that I am involved with for this clients bedroom - see On my Design Bench' 8 January 2019.)Yes, you all know how enamored I am with antiques; how I like to imagine the stories that weathered old items would tell.  However, in this [...]

Dyeing Fabric With Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint

My Chalk Furniture Paint has so many possibilities when it comes to painting different surfaces.  I have shown you in previous blog posts how to paint cushion covers, leather shoes and how to stencil fabric but did you know you could actually dye pieces of fabric with my Chalk Furniture Paint?  Yes really you can make up a dye bath and throw your fabric straight in!   Materials Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint – Colour of your choice Fabric – I used a 70 x 70 cotton tea towel. Large metal tub or something similar.  The container must be [...]

Chair Makeover

This Chair Makeover made the colour pop in the bedroom! From a dull and faded colour into a classic red and navy colour combination.  These gorgeous Thibaut and Diane Bergeron fabrics compliment each other beautifully and add a pop of colour into this new bedroom. Our home has recently gone through a bit of a transformation.  My ‘chuck everything in’ room downstairs has finally been converted into a beautiful bedroom and a separate more organized store room space.  The previous room was somewhere to store all my vintage treasures, old furniture and those ‘I’ll work on it one day’ projects.  After [...]
